Social networking is among one of the biggest trends in today’s society. A few years ago they started out as simple websites where old pals could talk to one another and reminisce about past memories.
What were once simple websites for friends to reunite with have now taken on a new form, one that is driven by profit and user population. Companies have realised the earning potential behind social networking sites and have flooded them with advertisements and flash games.
Many of these games and applications cost real money to play. These http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfYit5bbM6E are made for the purpose of revenue, and thus have undermined the reason these social networking sites were invented in the first place.
Social networking is not supposed to be about playing games and spending money, it is about connecting with old family and friends. People now spend more time playing games and taking quizzes than they do talking to friends and sharing stories.
There is nothing wrong with companies trying to make money, but advertisements in a free social space that are meant for friendly communication is not the place for them. Instead, there should be a separation of social networking and social networking games and apps.
This separation would help clear up the confusion and clutter of many social networking sites. Unfortunately since our society is driven by monetary gain, this separation is not ethical for either the social networking websites or applications themselves.
