A career in sales is not generally one that many people think about when they are young and planning their life and yet so many people end up in some job involving sales in one form or another whether it is selling iPhone SIM deals, the latest model of car or pensions and retirement annuities.
People think that you have to have a certain type of character to be successful in sales and while some people can certainly be said to have the gift of the gab, it does not always take the stereotypical image of a pushy and gobby sales man to be successful in this area.
For many customers, they would prefer their sales person to be polite, attentive and very knowledgeable in their field, someone that they can trust to help them to make a sensible purchase without pressuring them to buy something that they do not really need or cannot afford.
Of course, many sales people's salaries depend on how much they can sell, as they receive a commission on whatever they sell, so it is not always the most secure of jobs as the monthly take home pay can fluctuate.
However much their pay depends on it, any sales person worth their salt should be honest and helpful, with the aim of giving a good service rather than increasing their wages.
